Ten years after the Exalted March was cancelled and the fandom moved on to the Tevinter imperium, a ghost has returned to Kirkwall. It isn’t Anders’ spirit of justice—or vengeance. It is a file. A 1.2GB phantom known only to data miners as Project: Eluvia.
In late March, a user on the r/DragonAge subreddit posted a screenshot of something impossible: a quest titled "The Apostate’s Due" sitting in their journal, complete with a full mission marker pointing to the Gallows. The poster swore they hadn’t modded the game. They had simply installed the 2011 Legacy DLC from EA’s archived servers. dragon age 2 dlc unauthorized 10
Within 48 hours, the subreddit exploded. Thousands of players reported the same phenomenon. A quest they had never paid for—a DLC that EA insists was never developed, never certified, and never released—was triggering automatically upon completing Act 2.
And it wanted $10.99.
Because EA no longer reliably supports DA2 DLC authentication, some players resort to a DLC unauthorized fix patch (often called the “DA2 DLC crack” or “unlocker”). This modifies the game’s executable to skip the online check entirely. The Apostate DLC: How a $10 "Unauthorized" Add-On
DragonAge2.exe and the DLC manifest to treat all installed DLC as authorized.Several factors contribute to the persistence of this error years after release:
AddIns.xml to track which DLC you own. If this file becomes corrupted or desynchronized with your EA account, Error 10 appears.Dragon Age 2 shipped with "free" DLC, including The Exiled Prince (Sebastian Vael) and the Black Emporium. However, these were not truly free. They required a one-time server check to unlock. If your internet flickered, or if EA’s legacy servers timed out, you would get an Unauthorized 10.
EA servers store a local cache of your DLC signatures. Clearing it forces a full re-download. Where to find it : Search for “Dragon
C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EA Services\License (You may need to show hidden folders).C:\Users\[YourUsername]\AppData\Local\EA\Licenses and delete files there.The EA App will automatically request new DLC licenses when the game starts.
If you own the DLC legally but EA servers no longer recognize it, the community-made DA2 DLC Unlocker (available on Nexus Mods) can bypass the authentication check. Note: This is for authorized users only. Using it without ownership is piracy.
